This recording was made at The Hermon in December 2019 on the last gig of our winter tour. Thanks to Arts Council England for the support.

All of the tracks are arrangements by Magpie Trio which changed and developed from night to night on tour. Here's some information about their beginnings:

'Stompin’ At The Savoy', 'Easy To Remember', 'Autumn Leaves' and 'The Breeze And I' are all our reworkings of arrangements by the incredible Ahmad Jamal, particularly from the live recordings made in the late 50s of gigs with his trio featuring Israel Crosby on bass and Vernel Fournier on drums.

'Single Petal Of A Rose' is inspired by an arrangement that Rick Simpson (piano) brought to a gig with Sam and Tom Herbert (bass) during Sam's residency at The Post Bar in Tottenham. Thanks Rick!

The outro on 'Slow Hot Wind' was first introduced to us via the amazing album 'Speak Low' by Lucia Cadotsch, then we went on to discover it within older recordings, one that stands out is by Johnnie Hartman.

We had the pleasure of performing for the residents at Brookside House in Liverpool during our tour in December 2019, so 'The Christmas Song' has been included to help remember that special experience. Thanks Mum for organising the visit.
